The Gili Islands

Updated: Apr 18, 2019

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of a whirlwind visit to the incredibly beautiful island, Gili Air: one of the three Gili Islands west of Lombok, Indonesia.

Gili Air is a place like no other - days turn into weeks and you could end up never wanting to leave. Think: Bean bags on the beach, bonfires, magic mushroom shakes on bar menus, no cars (just bicycles and horse carriages), days spent snorkelling with turtles, beautiful sunsets, amazing (fresh, local) food, super friendly locals, a positive hippie vibe, and everyone just having a damn good, chilled out time. It was like being on another planet.

Welcome to my paradise:

Where I stayed: Adinda Bungalows

Where I liked to eat: Captain Coconuts (vegan restaurant) and Gili Bliss (smoothies and juices)

Favourite place for sunset cocktails: Boogils Restaurant and Bar

Where I liked to chill: Mowie's on a beanbag in the evening (great band and bonfires), Saparis Bar, 10 Bar (get the best ever bubble tea from across the street)

Favourite place to snorkel: Turtle Heaven, Gili Meno and out the front of the Blue Marlin, Gili Air.

Where I liked to visit: Gili Meno (a 20 minute boat ride away) - This is the best place to snorkel and I loved spending the day at the Ana Warung Bungalows (great food - best pumpkin soup I've ever tasted). Don't forget the visit the Turtle Sanctuary and donate some coin to help the turtles.

Where I liked to yoga: H20 Yoga

Favourite place to meditate: Anywhere.
